A brief and general guide as to how we install a deck. When installing a deck you have to take into consideration the harsh weather conditions it will be subjected to throughout its life. With this in mind we have developed techniques to overcome this and maximize the life expectancy of your deck.
Firstly the area is cleared of any debris and the ground is prepared. We then mark out the area where the deck will be built. The footings are then concreted securely in place. Next a tough durable weed membrane is laid and cut over the footing's and pegged in to the ground to prevent any unwanted weed growth under your deck. Next we securely bolt our beams on to the footings and then we sit our joists 'in the opposite direction' on top of the beams. This ensures there are no weak points that can begin to sag over the years. Finally, our deck boards are fixed to the joists. We re-seal the endgrain after every cut to protect the exposed cut ends of the subframe.
This ensures the entire deck is elevated off the ground giving good airflow and protection from the damp.
When decking on to a flat roof or concrete base we use a different method. we make big frames and level them up with rubber feet or pedestals depending on the desired finished height.
