SOFT WOOD OR HARD WOOD?
Price isn't the only difference between these two. There are so many different species of wood available to you I won't list them all. The two main species of wood decking we use are Scandinavian pine (soft wood) slow grown in Scandinavia to give a denser more stable wood and finished with a smooth face, This is a lovely low budget option. The other popular option is yellow Balau (hard wood). Yellow Balau (pronounced Bal-Ow) - Bangkirai - is a very durable hardwood and one of the most popular species in the UK for hardwood decking. It's a hard, heavy and strong timber that is well suited to deck construction.
With a mixture of warm colours of golden browns, light browns and pale reddish-brown, Yellow Balau offers a unique colour range which will sit beautifully within a natural environment.
